According to the Associated Press on Monday, the Carolina Panthers have named Dan Morgan of Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania their new general manager. Morgan has spent the last three seasons as the Panthers’s assistant general manager. Prior to that, he was the Buffalo Bills’s director of player personnel for three seasons from 2018 to 2020, and spent eight seasons working in the Seattle Seahawks organization as a scouting intern, assistant director of pro personnel and director of pro personnel.

Morgan replaces Scott Fitterer of Seattle, Washington as the Panthers general manager. The Panthers had a very disappointing 2023 National Football League regular season. They had the worst record in the league at two wins and 15 losses. Expectations were high when Carolina drafted Bryce Young of first overall, but after the outstanding season that second overall pick and fellow quarterback C.J. Stroud had with the Houston Texans, you could make the argument that Fitterer made a mistake.

Morgan is 45 years of age and spent seven seasons as a linebacker with the Panthers from 2001 to 2007. Injuries to Morgan’s ankle and Achilles tendon forced Morgan into retirement. In 59 NFL regular season games, he had 390 combined tackles (284 solo tackles and 106 assisted tackles), 18 tackles for a loss, five interceptions for 56 yards, 17 pass deflections, three forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries and seven sacks.

Initially, Morgan was the Panthers’s first round pick, 11th overall, in the 2001 NFL Draft. In 2004, he was selected to the Pro Bowl. That season, Morgan had 102 combined tackles (79 solo tackles and 23 assisted tackles), two tackles for a loss, two interceptions for 20 yards, six pass deflections, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and two sacks.
