Carlos Alcaraz was one of two tennis players to win an ATP 500 event on Sunday, as he joined Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan, who won in Halle. However, Alcaraz’s win at the Queen’s Club in London (also known now as the HSBC Championships), had significant meaning. That is because it does not matter the surface, or the time of year, you can almost guarantee the world number two will be the favourite to win whenever he is on the court.
One might have thought that Alcaraz needed time to transition himself to grass after his success on clay where he won the 2025 French Open. The answer is no, and as a result Alcaraz won his fifth tennis tournament of 2025, his 21st ATP title, and second Queen’s Club Championship. Just like Bublik, who won his first Halle title in 2023, Alcaraz won the 2023 Queen’s Club Championship, where he beat Australia’s Alex de Minaur in the final, 6-4, 6-4.
On Sunday, Alcaraz defeated Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic in the final, 7-5, 6-7, 6-2. Alcaraz had 18 aces compared to seven for Lehecka, and broke Lehecka three times in five opportunities. Alcaraz also won 87% of the points on his first serve, compared to 71% for Lehecka, and won 78% of the points on his second serve, compared to 58% for Lehecka. Two notable players Alcaraz beat in the tournament were Adam Walton of Home Hill, Australia, 6-4, 7-6, in the first round, and former world number nine and 2019 Wimbledon semifinalist Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain, 6-4, 6-4, in the semifinals. It is interesting that Alcaraz did not have to play a seeded player throughout the entire week. In addition to the French Open, Alcaraz won the Rotterdam Open, Monte Carlo Masters, and Italian Open in 2025.
