Carlos Alcaraz of El Palmar, Spain has won his first ATP event in 2025. On Sunday, Alcaraz defeated Australian Alex de Minaur 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in the final of the 2025 Rotterdam Open (also known as the ABN AMRO Open).

There were not many aces in the final. Alcaraz, the first seed in Rotterdam, only had two and de Minaur had one. Meanwhile, de Minaur, the third seed in Rotterdam, had four double faults compared to one for Alcaraz. Also in the final, Alcaraz, the world number three, saw de Minaur’s serve very well. He had four break points in eight opportunities.

In the first round in Rotterdam this week, Alcaraz was taken the distance by Botic van de Zandschulp, the hometown star from the Netherlands. Alcaraz emerged victorious, 7-6, 3-6, 6-1. Then in the semifinal, Alcaraz also needed three sets to beat 2021 Wimbledon semifinalist Hubert Hurkacz of Poland, before beating the eighth seed in Rotterdam, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.

Remarkably, Alcaraz became the first Spaniard player ever to win the Rotterdam Open. That stat is surprising when you consider the elite tennis depth Spain has had in men’s tennis over the last two years.

This was Alacraz’s 22nd ATP title. However, it was the first time he has ever won on an indoor hard court. It was also the second time Alcaraz has beaten de Minaur in an ATP final. The first time came in Queen’s in 2023, as Alcaraz won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

In the race for world number one, Alcaraz remains at number three at the moment. He is only behind Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Germany’s Alexander Zverev.
