According to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report on Wednesday, the Tennessee Titans have traded wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins of Central, South Carolina to the Kansas City Chiefs for a conditional fifth round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The draft pick becomes a fourth round pick according to Kevin Patra of nfl.com, if Kansas City reaches the Super Bowl in February, and if Hopkins plays in 60% of the total snaps. The Chiefs have won the last two Super Bowls. Meanwhile, the Titans will continue to pay $2.5 million of Hopkins’s salary.
Hopkins is joining his fourth NFL franchise. In addition to two years with the Titans, Hopkins spent seven seasons with the Houston Texans from 2013 to 2019, and three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals from 2020 to 2022.
This is the second time in Hopkins’s career he has been traded. On March 16, he was dealt from the Texans to the Cardinals for running back David Johnson of Clinton, Iowa.
This season, Hopkins has only had 15 catches for 173 receiving yards and one touchdown in six games. In Tennessee’s 34-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills this past Sunday, he had one catch for -2 receiving yards.
Kansas City was in need of a wide receiver after Rashee Rice injured his knee and Juju Smith-Schuster injured his hamstring. The Chiefs remain the only team in the entire NFL to be undefeated at six wins and zero losses. This past weekend in a Super Bowl rematch, the Chiefs did not need to beat the San Francisco 49ers with a great passing game. They won 28-18 with four rushing touchdowns.
