According to Mike Reiss of ESPN on Tuesday, the Las Vegas Raiders have traded offensive tackle Trent Brown of Albany, Georgia to the New England Patriots for a fifth-round draft pick in the 2022 National Football League Draft. In return, the Patriots will also receive a seventh-round draft pick in the 2022 NFL Draft from the Raiders.

Brown, who played his college football at the University of Florida, is the second offensive tackle to be traded this week. On Monday, the Tennessee Titans traded offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson of Brooklyn, New York, to the Miami Dolphins with a seventh-round draft pick in the 2022 NFL Draft for a seventh-round draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

By acquiring Brown, the Patriots did not put their franchise tag on left guard Joe Thuney of Centerville, Ohio, like they did last year. As a result, Thuney is expected to sign elsewhere. Thuney is a versatile offensive lineman as he can be utilized as a center, as well as a left guard.

Brown initially signed a four-year contract worth $66 million with the Oakland Raiders on March 13, 2019. At the time, Brown was the highest-paid offensive lineman in the entire NFL. In 2019, Brown was stellar on the Raiders offensive line, as he only gave up one sack in his 11 first games and was selected to his first Pro Bowl of his career. However, the season ended on a sour note for Brown as he suffered a pectoral injury in December which ended his season.

Then in 2020, Brown had complications with coronavirus, and suffered a knee injury. At 6’8”, 380 pounds, Brown is 27 years of age. He is actually returning to the Patriots, as he won a Super Bowl with New England in 2019. In 2021, Brown is set to make $11 million on a restructured one-year contract. In addition to the Raiders and Patriots, Brown initially played three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers from 2015 to 2017.
