We begin the second week of the 2025 NFL regular season on Thursday. Here are the key injuries, fantasy stars and projected upsets.

Key Injuries

The injury woes are continuing for the San Francisco 49ers. Quarterback Brock Purdy of Queen Creek, Arizona is out two to five weeks with turf toe and tight end George Kittle of Madison, Wisconsin, is out the next month with a hamstring problem. Meanwhile, New Orleans Saints safety Juilan Blackmon of Layton, Utah could be out for the season with a shoulder injury.

The top rated quarterback is Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson of Pompano Beach, Florida. He is projected to get 221 yards passing, 50 yards rushing and two touchdowns  on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Remember, the Browns looked great defensively in week one against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The top rated wide receiver is Dallas Cowboys wideout CeeDee Lamb of Opelousas, Louisiana. He is projected to get eight catches for 100 receiving yards and one touchdown against the New York Giants. The top rated running back is Derrick Henry of Yulee, Florida, who is projected to get 110 total yards for the Ravens.

Projected Upsets

There are two underdogs I like in week one. They are the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The reason I like the Patriots to win is because the Dolphins looked awful offensively and defensively in a 33-8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, and Baker Mayfield was excellent last week against the Atlanta Falcons, and should be good enough on Monday against the Houston Texans.
