Jets won’t have Aaron Rodgers back next season

We found out on Thursday that if Aaron Rodgers decides to return to the National Football League in 2025, it will not be with the New York Jets. That is because Rodgers, the former NFL MVP, was told by the Jets organization that they are moving in a direction that does not include the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Rogers’s time in New York was tumultuous to say the least. In his first game with the Jets in 2023, he tore his Achilles, and was out for the rest of the season. Then in 2024, the Jets were expected to at least contend for a playoff spot. However, they have only won five times in 17 games.

In the offseason so far, the Jets have a new head coach in Aaron Glenn of Humble, Texas, and general manager Darren Mougey of Scottsdale, Arizona. In a curious sequence of events, the Jets actually named Glenn head coach before naming Mougey general manager.

Now it will be interesting who else will leave the Jets. It is quite doubtful that star wide receiver Davante Adams will stay in the Big Apple because of his historical connections to Rodgers. Adams was traded during last season to New York from the Las Vegas Raiders for a third round pick.

It will also be interesting how the Jets treat the offseason. Will they have a mentality of retooling or will they plan to go with a rather long and extensive rebuild? Either way, it is going to be a while before the Jets are in playoff conversation.
