J.J. Spaun of Los Angeles, California has the lead after 18 holes of the 2025 United States Open at Oakmont. On Thursday, Spaun shot a score of four-under-par. He had an early tee-time as he was in the sixth group of the day, and then posted a score that nobody else could beat.

Spaun had four birdies and zero bogeys. After recording a score of par on the first nine holes, Spaun had four birdies on the back nine. He birdied the 10th, 12th, 16th, and 17th holes.

Spaun has one PGA Tour win. That was the 2022 Valero Texas Open. This year he is best known for losing to Rory McIlroy in a playoff at the Players Championship. One thing to keep in mind as Spaun is in contention is the fact he is a Type 1 Diabetic. He manages very well, but it is something to keep in mind.

There are currently nine other golfers who shot a red number and are under par. They are Thriston Lawrence of Mbombela, South Africa at -3, Si Woo Kim of Seoul, South Korea at -2, Brooks Koepka of West Palm Beach, Florida at -2, Sungjae Im of Cheongju-si, South Korea at -2, Ben Griffin of Chapel Hill, North Carolina at -1, Thomas Detry of Brussels, Belgium at -1, Jon Rahm of Barrika, Spain at -1, James Nicholas of New York City, New York at -1, and Rasmus Neergard-Petersen of Niva, Denmark at -1.

Of the 10 golfers under par, are two major champions who currently play on the LIV Tour. Koepka is a five-time major champion as he won the 2017 and 2018 United States Opens, and the 2018, 2019, and 2023 PGA Championships. Rahm won the 2021 United States Open, and the 2023 Masters.

Meanwhile, the craziest round belonged to another LIV player. Patrick Reed of San Antonio, Texas, the 2018 Masters champion actually shot an albatross, as he double eagled the fourth hole. However, he finished with a triple bogey and ended up at +3.
