Giants to start Jaxson Dart over Russell Wilson at quarterback Sunday

There are quarterback changes every year in the National Football League. However, when they happen in New York, the move is put under a magnifying glass.

On Tuesday according to Dan Salomone of giants.com, the New York Giants made the decision to start Jaxson Dart of Kaysville, Utah on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. The choice here is interesting because the Giants did sign veteran Super Bowl winning quarterback Russell Wilson of Bessemer, Alabama to a two-year contact worth $8 million in the offseason.

However, in the NFL it is all about what have you done for me lately. The bottom line is the fact the Giants have lost their first three games to start the season after they were beaten by the Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs. Despite the fact that Wilson had 450 yards passing against the Cowboys, he was ineffective against the Commanders and Chiefs.

Who is Jaxson Dart? Well, he was the Giants’s first round pick, 25th overall, in the 2025 NFL Draft out of the University of Mississippi. In an interesting fun fact, Dart was the second quarterback taken in the NFL Draft. The only quarterback taken ahead of Dart was Cam Ward of West Columbia,  Texas, who was taken first overall by the Tennessee Titans.

The other reason it is no surprise Dart is starting is because the amount of air time he got from NBC on Sunday night. He was even featured more than Giants legendary linebacker Lawrence Taylor, and music icon Taylor Swift. Oh wait, Swift was not there at all, but is usually featured at some point whenever the Kansas City Chiefs play.
