For the second time this week, the New York Giants have signed a quarterback. Five days after signing Jameis Winston of Bessemer, Alabama to a two-year contract worth $8 million, the Giants signed quarterback Russell Wilson of Cincinnati, Ohio to a one-year contract worth $21 million according to Kevin Dotson of CNN.

The Giants are the fourth franchise Wilson has played for in his National Football League career. He previously played 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks from 2012 to 2021, two seasons with the Denver Broncos in 2022 and 2023, and this past season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ten times Wilson has been selected to the Pro Bowl (2012 to 2015, and 2017 to 2021 with Seattle, and 2024 with Pittsburgh). He also won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks in 2013.

This past season in Pittsburgh, Wilson completed 214 passes in 336 attempts for 2482 passing yards, along with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also had 43 rushes for 155 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The signing by Wilson in New York makes one think the Giants will probably not select a quarterback in the 2025 National Football League Draft. The Giants have the third overall pick and are selecting only behind the Tennessee Titans (first overall), and the Cleveland Browns (second overall).

There had been speculation that the Giants were interested in free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who was released by the New York Jets. Now with the Minnesota Vikings stating that they are committed to J.J. McCarthy, there is wide speculation that the Steelers may go with the 41-year-old veteran who is a four-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP.
