Anyway you look at it, it has been a tough season for the New York Mets. They are dead last in the National League East at 21 wins and 26 losses, and a major reason for their early season struggles have been related to injuries.

Among the Mets on the injury list include shortstop Francisco Lindor (strained left calf and has not played since April 22), shortstop Ronny Mauricio (broken thumb, and has not played since May 2), outfielder Luis Robert Jr. (back injury and has not played since April 26), designated hitter Jorge Polanco (Achilles bursitis and has not played since April 14), relief pitcher A.J. Minter (has not pitched this season due to hip injury), and outfielder Jared Young (has not played since April 12 with a knee injury).

You can now add two more Mets to the list from the last week. Catcher Francisco Alvarez will be out two months with a torn meniscus that needed surgery to repair, and starting pitcher Clay Holmes will be out two months as well after breaking his leg on a comeback last week against the New York Yankees.

Alvarez was batting .241 with four home runs and 10 runs batted in. In 2026, he has scored 12 runs and had 27 hits, five doubles, 11 walks, 44 total bases, one sacrifice fly, an on base percentage of .317 and a slugging percentage of .393. The sacrifice fly came in a 10-8 Mets win over the Minnesota Twins on April 23.

Holmes has been outstanding on the mound this season for the Mets and not the reason why the team is struggling. He has a record of four wins and four losses, with an earned run average of 2.39 and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings of 1.10). In 52 2/3 innings pitched, Holmes has only given up 40 hits, 14 earned runs, three home runs, and 18 walks, to go along with 45 strikeouts and four quality starts.
