According to Toby Coxon of The Sporting News on Friday, the Miami Dolphins have fired general manager Chris Grier of Holliston, Massachusetts. Grier had been the Dolphins general manager since 2016. In that time period, the Dolphins had a record of 77 wins and 80 losses in 157 games.

The regular season record was slightly below average, as Grier had a winning percentage of .490. However, the Dolphins were unable to win a postseason game in his tenure. Miami lost 30-17 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2017 AFC Wildcard, lost 34-31 to the Buffalo Bills in the 2023 AFC Wildcard, and lost 26-7 to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2024 AFC Wildcard.

The reason for the firing is because of the Dolphins’s struggles this season. They are at two wins and seven losses, and have the third worst record in the American Football Conference. The only two teams worse are the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets, who are both at one win and seven losses. Miami’s first win of the season came on September 29 as they beat the New York Jets 27-21. They then beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-10 this past Sunday.

However, it was the Dolphins loss to Baltimore on Thursday, that was the last contributing factor to the Grier firing. This was the third time this season that Miami lost by 22 points or more as they were beaten 28-6 by the Ravens. Miami was also beaten 33-8 by the Indianapolis Colts in week one and 31-6 to the Cleveland Browns on October 19.

The interim Dolphins general manager is Champ Kelly of Campbellton, Florida. He was the Las Vegas Raiders interim general manager in 2023.
