Zac Hosking makes immediate switch to bolster Raiders pack

Zac Hosking has joined the Canberra Raiders, effective immediately, which marks the third club for the NRL journeyman in as many seasons.

The Panthers second-rower joins Hudson Young and Elliott Whitehead in what many regard as one of the stronger packs in the competition. Ricky Stuart has kept the Green Machine as a perennial finals threat for some years now and Hosking is expected to only add to the depth the capital’s team can draw on this year.

There have been few reports about what Hoskings will be earning in his new deal with Canberra, but the Raiders definitely have him signed on through to the end of the 2026 season.

Hosking will play for his third club in as many campaigns once the new season begins after debuting with the Brisbane Broncos in 2021 and then joining the Panthers in 2022. He has played 25 games in the top-flight competition, including 21 for Penrith. He missed out on a spot in the grand final team that defeated Brisbane in November.

Panthers staff admitted keeping Hosking was always going to be “an uphill battle.”

The Raiders will begin 2024 on the road in Newcastle on March 7. The Canberra squad’s second row is expected to be bolstered by Hosking’s arrival, with the 26-year-old now racing to win a starting spot for the opening-round clash.

“The Canberra Raiders are incredibly excited to announce the signing of Zac Hosking,” Raiders recruitment boss Joel Carbone said. “In the brief time we’ve known Zac, and through watching him play in the NRL over the last few seasons, it’s evident that his work ethic, ability, and character will be great additions to our club.

“He adds versatility to our squad. We’re delighted to have him on board.”
