Yankees, Tigers & Cubs reach round two of 2025 MLB postseason
5 months ago - Sportingbase
We now know the eight teams in the second round of the 2025 Major League Baseball postseason. Joining the Los Angeles Dodgers who advanced to the National League Divisional Series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, are the New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, and Chicago Cubs.
The Tigers are facing the Seattle Mariners in the American League Divisional Series after they beat the Cleveland Guardians 6-3 on Thursday. The Detroit win was a surprise to me when you take into consideration how poorly the Tigers played down the stretch. In game three, the Tigers got a key sixth inning home run from catcher Dillon Dingler of Massillon, Ohio, and a two-run RBI single from right fielder Wenceel Perez of Azua, Dominican Republic in the seventh inning.

The Yankees face the Toronto Blue Jays after eliminating the Boston Red Sox two games to one with a 4-0 win. In game three on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium, we literally saw greatness from rookie pitcher Cam Schittler of Walpole, Massachusetts, who threw eight shutout innings, had 12 strikeouts and zero walks, and only gave up five hits. New York also scored all four runs in the fourth inning thanks to RBI singles from Amed Rosario, Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells.
The Cubs face the Milwaukee Brewers after eliminating the San Diego Padres two games to one with a 3-1 win. This was a strong game for Michael Busch and Pete Crow-Armstrong. Both Busch and Crow-Armstrong had three hits each, and Busch hit a home run.
