Xander Schauffele continues to lead 2024 PGA Championship

Xander Schauffele of San Diego, California remains the leader of the 2024 PGA Championship. After having a record setting performance on Thursday when shooting an amazing nine-under-par 62, the reigning Olympic gold medalist and world number three improved his overall score to -12 on Friday.

There are six golfers at this time in contention. Collin Morikawa of Los Angeles, California, the two-time major champion (2020 PGA Championship and 2021 British Open), is all alone in second place at -11. Sahith Theegala of Orange, California is all alone in third place at -10. Meanwhile there are four golfers at -9 and in fourth place. There you can find 2020 United States Open champion Bryson DeChambeau of Modesto, California,  2022 Masters and 2024 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey. Mark Hubbard of Denver, Colorado and Thomas Detry of Brussels, Belgium.

In Schauffele’s second round, he shot a three-under-par 68. He had four birdies and one bogey. He birdied the third, seventh, ninth and 10th holes, and bogeyed the 11th hole. When Schauffele bogeyed the 11th hole, it was his first and only bogey in the tournament so far.

However, the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship will be best remembered for a pair of incidents in the morning before the round began. First, there was a tragic accident that occurred before play. A pedestrian who was working the tournament was hit by a shuttle bus and died. Then, Scheffler was arrested for disobeying law enforcement directing traffic and assaulting a police officer when trying to arrive to the golf course on Friday.
