For most of the season we have given the Detroit Pistons high praise for their remarkable turn around. However on Thursday we saw some signs of the 2023-24 Pistons that had a gigantic losing streak. Detroit was heavily favoured to beat the Washington Wizards heading into Thursday night’s action as they were a 13 point favourite, but ended up losing to the worst team in basketball this season by a score of 129-125.

The Wizards beat the Pistons with a balanced attack, and as a result, won their seventh road game of the season. Keeping with the number seven, a total of seven Wizards players reached double figures in points. French rookie center Alex Sarr of Bordeaux led the Wizards with 19 points. He was followed by shooting guard Jordan Poole of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and small forward Justin Champagnie of Brooklyn, New York (17 points each), small forward Khris Middleton of Charleston, South Carolina and point guard Bub Carrington of Baltimore, Maryland (16 points each), 2022 Sixth Man of the Year Award winner Marcus Smart of Flower Mound, Texas (15 points), and small forward Corey Kispert of Edmonds, Washington (14 points).

Washington had strong second and fourth quarters. In the second quarter, Washington outscored Detroit 38-31, and in the fourth quarter, Washington outscored Detroit 33-24. The Wizards win came after they were clobbered 123-103 by the Pistons on Tuesday.

Despite the loss, the Pistons remain comfortably in the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference. With a record of  37 wins and 29 losses, they are four and a half games up on the seventh place Atlanta Hawks.
