Wimbledon will definitely take place in 2021

With or without spectators, Wimbledon will definitely be a go in 2021 according to Reuters Media. The 2020 Wimbledon competition did not take place due to coronavirus. Unlike the French Open, Wimbledon did not move to another date.

Of the four major events every year, Wimbledon is the only major held on grass. In addition to Wimbledon, all of the other grass court events held on the ATP Tour and WTA Tour were cancelled in 2020.

It is not known at this time if Wimbledon will have spectators or not. The U.S. Open from Flushing Meadows, New York had no spectators, while the French Open had limited spectators of 1,000 per day.

If there is a vaccine of coronavirus by July of 2021, the chances of spectators being allowed into The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is much greater. However, even if there is a vaccine, it will take several months for the masses to be vaccinated. There have been 741, 212 cases of coronavirus in Great Britain, and 43 726 deaths.

This was the first year that Wimbledon was cancelled since the final year of World War II in 1945. During that period, Wimbledon was cancelled for six straight years from 1940 to 1945. It was also cancelled for four straight years from 2015 to 2018 because of World War I.

The organizers of The All England Club also had the foresight that a worldwide pandemic may happen. According to Stuart Fraser of The Times, they had an insurance policy which covered infectious disease. The French Tennis Federation did not have the same policy, and needed to pursue with the French Open, or else they were to lose in the neighbourhood of $230 million.
