According to Malika Andrews of ESPN on Sunday, Brooklyn Nets forward Wilson Chandler of Benton Harbor, Michigan has decided not to rejoin the Nets for the National Basketball Association restart at the end of July. Chandler explains the need to spend more time with his grandmother and three children as the reasons why.

Chandler was coming predominantly off the bench for the Nets this season. Of the 35 games he played for Brooklyn, Chandler only started three contests. He averaged 5.9 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per game, and had a field goal percentage of .404, three-point percentage of .306, and free throw percentage of .870, which was a career-high.

Chandler got off to a rocky start this season with the Nets. On July 8, it was reported that Chandler would be suspended for 25 games to begin the year for taking performance-enhancing drugs. He was found to have Ipamorelin, a human growth hormone, in his system.

A NBA veteran, Chandler is 33 years old. He previously played for the New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Los Angeles Clippers. A standout at DePaul University, Chandler was the first-round pick, 23rd overall, by the Knicks in the 2007 NBA Draft.

The Nets currently are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 30 wins and 34 losses. Heading into the NBA coronavirus hiatus, Brooklyn had won three straight games. They beat the San Antonio Spurs 139-120 on March 6, the Chicago Bulls 110-107 on March 8, and then stunned the Los Angeles Lakers 104-102 on March 10. In the three games, Chandler had 14 points and was an impressive +25.
