Will we see Jeeno Thitikul win her first major championship?

You could make the argument that Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul is the best female golfer in the world at the moment not to have won a major. The world number two is actually one of only three golfers in the Rolex Rankings top 10 without a major title in her career. The other two are Haeran Ryu of South Korea (ranked fifth), and American Angel Yin of Los Angeles, California (ranked 10th).

It should be noted that Thitikul has won five times on the LPGA Tour. She won the 2022 JTBC Classic in Carlsbad, California, the 2022 Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, the 2024 Dow Team Championship (with 2023 Women’s PGA Championship winner Ruoning Yin of China) in Midland, Michigan, the 2024 CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida and the 2025 Mizuho Americas Open in Jersey City, New Jersey. Just none of the tournament victories are an event that are the most significant in women’s golf.

Things have the potential of changing this weekend. Thitikul was the first round leader after Thursday of the 2025 Women’s PGA Championship at the Fields Ranch East Golf Course in Frisco, Texas. 

Now after a second round score of two-under-par 70, she has a score after 36 holes of -6. On Friday, Thitikul had four birdies and two bogeys. She birdied the third, eighth, ninth and 15th holes, and bogeyed the fourth and 12th holes.

There are two other golfers in contention. Rio Takeda of Japan, and Australian Minjee Lee of Perth are three strokes back at -3. Lee is a two-time major champion, as she won the 2021 Evian Championship and the 2022 United States Women’s Open.
