Why Piastri Won’t Finish On The Podium In Australian GP

After a great start in 2024, there is a lot of excitement about the chances of having Oscar Piastri on the podium in his home grand prix but here’s why that won’t happen.

The young Aussie has started well in 2024 with 8th and 4th place finishes in the opening two races of the season but with those tracks being vastly different to Albert Park we think Piastri will be happy to finish in the top 10.

The Australian may also have happy memories of Albert Park, securing his first F1 championship points during last year’s Australian Grand Prix but here’s why we think he won’t finish on the podium.

Low-Speed Corners

The McLaren is known for it’s ability on the high-speed corners and while there are a couple of those on the Albert Park track, there are plenty of low-speed corners that have proven to be a weakness for this car.

Four DRS Zones

It was clear in Saudi Arabia that the DRS is a real issue for the McLaren and so much so that the team in the factory are bringing huge upgrades around the DRS for Imola later in the year & with four DRS zones this weekend there is sure to be some struggles when it comes to overtaking.

Red Bulls Are Too Good

The issue for every team that isn’t a Red Bull is that they’re simply not good enough to pass the bulls and with those two cars likely to take up two positions on the podium it only leaves one spot which will likely be taken by Charles Leclerc.

Having said all of this, we would love to see the young Aussie on the podium in his home grand prix but it looks to us like he will have to wait until next year.
