Weekend Wrap: The Biggest Moments In This Weekend’s Sport

In this segment, we bring you a look at the biggest sporting moments of the past weekend.

This weekend saw football heroics, comebacks and bizarre BBL action.

7th Ball Dismissal

The Big Bash League provided fans with sporting action over the weekend, but one moment during the clash between the Perth Scorchers and the Sydney Sixers left viewers bewildered.

During one of Ben Dwarshius’ overs, the umpires seemingly forgot how many balls had been bowled, with Dwarshius bowling a seventh delivery.

The subsequent extra ball resulted in the dismissal of Perth Scorchers’ opener, Michael Klinger.

Commentators were left fuming that the umpires had failed to notice the issue, and that the third umpire had not stepped in.

Cricket Australia responded after the game, saying that once the ball had been bowled, it was live, so the decision had to stand.

Fortunately for the Scorchers, they went on to grab the win in the match, despite the controversial call.

Man Utd Continue Win Streak

Well if Donald Trump wants to save money and still get his wall approved, perhaps he should look at hiring Manchester United’s goalkeeper, David De Gea.

The Red Devils continued their perfect record under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, gaining a sixth win from six matches.

This weekend’s game was their biggest since the axing of former manager, Jose Mourinho.

United faced third-placed Tottenham on the road, and managed to get a 1-0 victory.

Marcus Rashford scored the 44th minute goal, while Dea Gea kept an impressive clean sheet.

De Gea’s performance between the posts received plaudits from many, including Solskjaer, who labelled him “the best goalkeeper in the world.”

Tottenham will be reeling from the loss, as well as having captain Harry Kane injured during the match.

Perth Comeback

They did it last weekend, and they’ve done it this weekend.

Perth Glory are currently the kings of comebacks, this time getting the late victory over the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Down 3-1 after 77 minutes, Glory scored three late goals to escape with a miraculous 4-3 victory.

The winning goal coming via an 86th minute penalty.

The win leaves Glory on top of the table, with the Wanderers languishing in 8th.

Messi 400th goal

Lionel Messi reached the incredible milestone of scoring 400 goals in the La Liga, over the weekend.

Messi, the all-time leading goalscorer in the Spanish league, put one past Eibar, in Barcelona’s 3-0 win, to reach the feat.

It’s another record for the Argentinian, who, along with Cristiano Ronaldo, have been leaps and bounds above the competition during their careers.

The win keeps Barcelona five points clear of Atletico Madrid.
