Week 17 game between Bills and Bengals postponed after Damar Hamlin collapses

There was a heartbreaking incident on Monday in the big week 17 matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills. With five minutes and 58 seconds left in the first quarter, Bills safety Damar Hamlin of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania collapsed on the field at around midfield after tackling Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. At the time of the collapse, the Bengals were leading the Bills 7-3.
Hamlin is 24 years old and is in his second season with the Bills. After his collapse, he was given Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR), and it was determined that Hamlin suffered from cardiac arrest. Hamlin was then taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he is in critical condition. According to the Associated Press, the Bills have confirmed that Hamlin’s heart stopped after making the tackle on Higgins.

The game has been postponed indefinitely. According to the Associated Press, the game will not be played this week. The situation is this game has gigantic playoff implications as the Bills and Bengals are both in contention for the number one seed in the American Football Conference. The Bills are ranked second in the conference with a record of 12 wins and three losses. The Bengals are ranked third in the conference with a record of 11 wins and four losses. The other team in contention for first in the AFC, are the current conference leaders, the 13-3 Kansas City Chiefs. At the beginning of the season, the Bills were the team that The Sporting Base predicted would win the Super Bowl.
