Warriors to retire number nine of Andre Iguodala

According to the Associated Press on Tuesday, the Golden State Warriors plan to retire the number nine jersey of Andre Iguodala. The retirement ceremony is set to take place on February 23, after the Warriors will face the Dallas Mavericks.

The forward from Springfield, Illinois played six consecutive seasons for the Warriors from 2013 to 2019, and two additional seasons from 2021 to 2023. Iguodala will be best remembered as the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player in 2015. He then went on to win three additional NBA Finals with the Warriors in 2017, 2018 and 2022.

Igudoala played 452 regular season games for the Warriors. He averaged 6.9 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game, 3.4 assists per game, and 1.1 steals per game. Iguodala had a field goal percentage of .480, a three point percentage of .332, and a free throw percentage of .638.

However, it was in the postseason where Iguodala was able to shine the most. When the Warriors beat the Cavaliers in six games to win the 2015 NBA Finals, and Iguodala was recognized as NBA Finals MVP, he averaged 16.3 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, and four assists per game. Iguodala also had 25 points in the series clinching game, a 105-97 Warriors win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Iguodala is now the seventh Warriors player in franchise history to have his number retired. The other six are point guard Al Attles of Newark, New Jersey (16), small forward Rick Barry of Elizabeth, New Jersey (24), center Wilt Chamberlain of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (13), forward Tom Meschery of Harbin Manchuria, China (14), small forward Chris Mullin of New York, New York (17), and center Nate Thurmond of Akron, Ohio (42).
