Wade Ryan to face Dennis Hogan in IBO world title eliminator
4 years ago - Sportingbase
Headlined by Tim Tszyu’s younger brother Nikita, the match-up will see Ryan who is globally ranked at 44th in the super-welterweight rankings on Boxrec and the current IBO international title holder, face off with Hogan in an IBO world title eliminator.
The Gunnedah local is on a four fight win-streak beating the likes of Koen Mazoudier, Troy O’Meley x2 and Japan’s Nath Nwachukwu and is coming into the fight in the best form of his career and has certainly lost the journeyman tag he once was labelled.
When No Limit Boxing offered Ryan the opportunity to fight for the first time at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in March last year, he jumped at the chance, earning a technical knockout victory over Mazoudier.[adrotate banner=”166″]
Ever since, Ryan has been so dominant that he was ranked 10th in the pound-for-pound Aus Boxing rankings as of December 2021.
Meanwhile, Hogan an Irishman who fights out of Queensland, is looking to avenge his three defeats in world title bouts. His first career defeat came at the hands of Germany’s Jack Culcay for the WBA super-welterweight title in 2015. After picking up six more wins, he was given a shot at Jamie Munguia’s WBO super-welterweight belt which he lost via majority decision in controversial fashion.
A shot at the WBC middleweight title came up in the very next fight against Jermall Charlo where he lost by TKO in the seventh round.
He later lost to Tim Tszyu two years later following a stint on the sidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic and returned to the winner’s circle with a unanimous decision victory over Tommy Browne in November last year.
The card will also feature Brisbane local Liam Wilson who will be looking to avenge his defeat to Joe Noynay from July last year. Steve Spark who headlined that event with Tszyu will also make an appearance with undefeated 1-0 fighter River Diaz the opponent.
