Vikings fire general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah

The Minnesota Vikings have fired general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah according to the Associated Press on Friday. The Vikings missed the postseason this past year with a record of nine wins and eight losses. That was five fewer wins than Minnesota had in 2025, when they had a tremendous record of 14 wins and three losses.
The number one reason why Adofo-Mensah got fired as the Vikings general manager is because he clearly botched the quarterback position in Minnesota this past year. He said goodbye to Sam Darnold, who signed a three year deal worth $100.5 million, and encouraged the development of former first round pick J.J. McCarthy of Evanston, Illinois.

While McCarthy was injured for the entire 2024 season with a torn meniscus in his right knee, Darnold guided the Vikings to an outstanding 2024 season. However, the 2024 Vikings season ended on a sour note as Darnold had poor games in his final two outings (regular season finale against the Detroit Lions and the NFC wildcard game against the Los Angeles Rams).

This season Darnold is the quarterback who is responsible for the Seattle Seahawks playing in the Super Bowl. At this time, the Seahawks are a 4.5 point favourite against the New England Patriots. McCarthy, did not bring the same quarterback success to Minnesota as Darnold did a year ago.
With the firing of Adofo-Mensah, the Vikings have named Rob Brzezinski as the executive in charge of the 2026 NFL Draft. Brzezinski has not been named the permanent general manager yet, but is getting a temporary promotion after being the Vikings executive vice president of football operations. Vikings heads coach Kevin O’Connell will also have an opinion at the draft. He reportedly disagreed with Adofo-Mensah a year ago about Darnold’s future in Minnesota.
