Undefeated Powerhouses To Clash For Boxing’s Heavyweight Title

It’s been billed as the biggest heavyweight bout since Ali and Fraser’s ‘Rumble in the Jungle’. On Saturday at Los Angeles’ Staples Centre, Deontay Wilder (40-0) will defend his WBC Heavyweight title against Tyson ‘the Gypsy’ Fury (27-0).

Rarely are we faced with the mouthwatering prospect of two dominant figures, both inside and outside the ring. The fact that both come into this undefeated is the icing on the cake.

Fury’s story is, without doubt, the more intriguing and inspiring. In 2015 he shocked the world by defeating Wladimir Klitschko to take the title. Fury was stripped of his titles later that year for failing to meet medical requirements after numerous cancellations of his title defence.

As Fury tells his story he discusses the 18-month drug and alcohol bender he walked whilst dealing with issues of depression.

“I was hell-bent on destroying myself with alcohol. I wanted to drink myself to death”, the Englishman explains.

“It was nothing for Tyson Fury to have a litre of vodka in him a day”.

“It wasn’t only the drinking, I’d eat you name it, kebabs, chocolates, all day long. You name it!”

At his lowest point, the Gypsy claimed to be a whopping 400 pounds (181kg).

“If I can withstand coming back from mental health problems, depression and suicide, then I can withstand anything”, said Fury.

On January 10th, 2018, Fury shocked the world by announcing he planned on returning to the ring and would do so with new trainer Ben Davison, a man the boxing world knew little about.

In his return bout, Fury toyed with his less than fancied rival in his hometown of Manchester. Ending the bout in the 4th round. He later defeated former world title challenger Francesco Pianeta. The match would go the whole 10 rounds and after winning 100-90 on points Fury later claimed that he never had any intention of ending the fight.

After long anticipation, The Gypsy will finally go toe-to-toe with ‘The Bronze Bomber’. A man that has the most lethal knockout combo we have seen in a long time. The undefeated American has only failed to knockout his opponent in one encounter.
