Trial Review: Horses That Caught The Eye At The Trials This Week 22/1

Check out all four runners that have been thrown into the black book after a massive morning of 17 trials at Warwick Farm.

Stefi Magnetica

The Baker mare stood out as the most forward runner from the two Group trials held on the course proper. The Stradbroke, Doncaster and Invitation winner seems to be going from strength to strength on the back of a 0.1L win in the opener that included Angel Capital and Attica. She landed 1 out and 1 back and when Collett gave her the smallest of shake ups at the 300m she cruised to the line recording a stylish win. She has to be worth serious consideration in any 1400m-1600m races she targets over the autumn.

God Save The King

It’s always worth noting when J Mac is legged aboard a Waterhouse/Bott runner at the trials and the unraced God Save The King proved why with a massive 5L victory. He was taken straight to the front and worked through the gears nicely from the top of the straight. I was a little suspect on the margin as the 2nd horse Amplify wasn’t asked to do much at all but the clock told the story. He ran 0.71s faster than the next quickest 1200m trial won by Red Light Rachel. He is definitely one to look out for in midweek maiden company.

Fierce

Another impressive all the way winner was Fierce from the Hawkes stable. He was a narrow winner on debut at Hawkesbury on debut and looks capable of building a picket fence after a 1.1L victory running home in 33.71s. He should take considerable improvement from his first trial back off a 20-week break and was evidently sweating up on the footage.

Johnny Rocker

Yet another new comer to the Bjorn Baker yard. The lightly raced 6yo has always shown great ability but has struggled with consistency in his 17 start/3 win career, which may be indicative of some issues along the way. He was runner up to Imperatriz in the G1 William Reid back in 2024. He looks to have settled in well to his new stable after settling behind the leader and rolling up the inside to score a 0.1L win. It would be nice to see him well placed in Benchmark company early in his prep.
