Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Trey Yesavage of Pottstown, Pennsylvania set a Major League Baseball record for most strikeouts in a World Series game by a rookie pitcher on Wednesday. He had 12 strikeouts in a 6-1 Blue Jays win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in game five of the 2025 World Series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. With the win, the Blue Jays lead the best out of seven series three games to two. It is simply an electrifying time for Canadian baseball at the moment. The Blue Jays are looking for their first World Series since 1993.

Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Don Newcombe of Madison, New Jersey had the old record. He had 11 strikeouts on October 5, 1949 in a 1-0 Dodgers loss to the New York Yankees.

This was the second time in the 2025 MLB postseason that Yesavage reached double digits in a single game in strikeouts. He also accomplished the feat in game two of the American League Divisional Series, a 13-7  Blue Jays win over the Yankees. It should be noted that Yesavage was excellent in the contest as he had 5 1/3 shutout innings before the bullpen mightily struggled.

In the 2025 MLB postseason, Yesavage has a record of three wins and one loss with an earned run of 3.46. In 26 innings pitched, he has given up 17 hits, 10 earned runs, three home runs and 10 walks, to go along with 17 strikeouts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.91. Also in the Blue Jays win on Wednesday, they got off to a magical start. Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. both hit home runs on the first two pitches thrown in the game.
