Top five storylines from Week 16 of the NFL season

The Christmas weekend in the National Football League is in the books. Here are the headlines from week 16.
5) The South Sucks.
The NFC South may be the division where the greatest quarterback of all-time plays (Tom Brady), and the AFC South may be the division where two elite running backs (Jonathan Taylor and Derrick Henry) play, but at this time none of the eight teams in these two divisions are above .500. The Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans leads the AFC South at 7-8, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lead the NFC South at 7-8. The overall record of the two divisions is 44 wins and 74 losses for a winning percentage of .373.
4) The Chargers are in.
On Boxing Day night, the Los Angeles Chargers clinched a playoff spot in the AFC with a 20-3 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Colts quarterback Nick Foles was intercepted three times, and the Colts defense limited the Chargers running attack to 69 yards. The Chargers are at 9-6 and in second place in the AFC West.

3) Panthers have a great day running the ball.
When the Carolina Panthers traded Christian McCaffrey to San Francisco, nobody thought the Panthers might actually be better running the football. The tandem of D’Onta Foreman of Texas City, Texas and Canadian Chuba Hubbard of Sherwood Park, Alberta were excellent on Saturday in a 37-23 Panthers win over the Detroit Lions. Foreman had 21 rushes for 165 yards and one touchdown, and Hubbard had 12 rushes for 125 yards. The Panthers had 240 rushing yards in the first 30 minutes, which was a franchise record for the most rushing yards in the first half of a regular season game.

2) Broncos make coaching change.
After a pitiful 51-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day afternoon, the Denver Broncos fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett and replaced him with Jerry Rosburg of Fairmont, Minnesota. There is a joke on Twitter yesterday saying the only reason why Hackett was fired is because they could not fire quarterback Russell Wilson. You could make the argument that Wilson has been the worst quarterback in the NFL this season. He is 3-10, with a completion percentage of 60.1%, the worst in his career.

1) Vikings set franchise records.
There were three Minnesota Vikings franchise records set in their 27-24 win over the New York Giants on Saturday. Kicker Greg Joseph of Johannesburg, South Africa made a 61-yard field goal, the longest in Vikings history, and wide receiver Justin Jefferson of St. Rose, Louisiana set the Vikings records for most receptions (123) and receiving yards (1756) in a single season.
