The 2023 United States Open will be starting on Thursday at the North Course from the Los Angeles Country Club. Here are the top five groups that golf fans should keep an eye on.

5) Shane Lowry/Justin Thomas/Tommy Fleetwood

This group we have two major champions in Shane Lowry and Justin Thomas. Lowry of Clara, Ireland won the 2019 British Open, while Thomas of Louisville, Kentucky won the 2017 and 2022 PGA Championship. Fleetwood is not a major champion, but has an excellent resume on the European Tour, and the native of Southport, England just finished second in losing to Nick Taylor of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in a playoff at the 2023 Royal Bank of Canada Canadian Open in Toronto on Sunday.

4) Tony Finau/Jordan Spieth/Patrick Cantlay

This trio of Americans are household names in the world of golf. Jordan Spieth of Dallas, Texas is a three-time major champion as he won the 2015 United States Open, the 2015 PGA Championship and 2017 British Open. Cantlay is fourth in the world and Finau is 12th.

3) Xander Schauffele/Viktor Hovland/Jon Rahm

Here we have Jon Rahm of Barrica, Spain, the 2021 United States Open champion and 2023 Masters champion, Xander Schauffele of San Diego, California, the 2020 Olympic champion in Tokyo in 2021, and world number five Viktor Hovland of Oslo, Norway. Hovland meanwhile was the leader after the second round of the PGA Championship  and finished in second place.

 2) Collin Morikawa/Scottie Scheffler/Max Homa

Collin Morikawa of Los Angeles, California, and Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey are both major champions. Morikawa won the 2020 PGA Championship, and 2021 British Open, and Scheffler won the 2022 Masters. Homa of Burbank, California, is seventh in the world.

1) Brooks Koepka/Rory McIlroy/ Hideki Matsuyama

All three players in this group are major champions and they have won a combined total of 10 among them. McIlroy of Holywood, Northern Ireland won the 2011 United States Open, 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship, and 2014 British Open. Koepka of West Palm Beach, Florida won the 2017 and 2018 United States Open, and 2018, 2019 and 2023 PGA Championship, and Hideki Matsuyama of Japan won the 2021 Masters.
