Top five pairings for the 2024 British Open

The 2024 British Open is just hours away from Royal Troon. Here are five top pairings for the first two rounds.

5) Ludvig Aberg/Bryson DeChambeau/Tom Kim

Here we have Aberg, the world number four, and one of our top three picks to win the British Open, DeChambeau, the 2020 United States Open champion, and 2024 United States Open champion, and the world number 17 Tom Kim of South Korea.

4) Jon Rahm/Tommy Fleetwood/Robert MacIntyre

Like the aforementioned group, there is only one major champion. However, like DeChambeau, Spain’s Jon Rahm is a multiple major champion, as he won the 2021 United States Open and 2023 Masters. Robert MacIntyre of Oban, Scotland is one of two PGA Tour players to win more than once on the PGA Tour this year. The other is obviously Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey, who remarkably has won six times. MacIntyre’s wins came at the Canadian Open and Scottish Open. Fleetwood, the world number 12, has never won a PGA Tour event, but has won seven times on the European Tour (now called DP World Tour) including in Dubai in January.

3) Tiger Woods/Xander Schauffele/Patrick Cantlay

All three of these golfers are California-born. Woods is from Cypress, Schauffele is from San Diego, and Cantlay is from Long Beach. Woods is a 15-time major champion. He has won five Masters (1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2019), four PGA Championships (1999, 2000, 2006, and 2007), three United States Opens (2000, 2002, 2008), and three British Opens (2000, 2005, and 2006). Schauffele became a major champion for the first time in 2024 as he won the PGA Championship. Cantlay is the world number eight and 2021 FedEx Cup champion.

2)  Shane Lowry/Cameron Smith/Matt Fitzpatrick

All three players in this group are major champions. Lowry of Clara, Ireland won the 2019 British Open, Smith of Brisbane, Australia won the 2022 British Open, and Fitzpatrick of Sheffield, England won the 2022 United States Open.

1) Wyndham Clark/Hideki Matsuyama/Brooks Koepka

Like the previous group, all three players in this trio are major winners. Clark of Denver, Colorado won the 2023 United States Open, Matsuyama of Matsuyama, Japan, won the 2021 Masters, and Koepka of West Palm Beach, Florida is a five-time major champion. He won the 2017 and 2018 United States Opens, and the 2018, 2019, and 2023 PGA Championships.
