Top five pairings for the 2022 PGA Championship
4 years ago - Sportingbase
The 2022 PGA Championship begins on Thursday from Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The tournament was initially to take place at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, but was moved to Tulsa in January of last year when the PGA Tour wanted to disassociate themselves from Trump’s political views. Here are the top five pairings for the second major of the year.
5) Victor Hovland/Will Zalatoris/Cameron Smith–
This group has never won a major, but are all ranked in the top 30. Australia’s own Cameron Smith, the Players Champion and Sentry Tournament of Champions champion is fourth, Norway’s Hovland is sixth, and Zalatoris is 30th.
4) Hideki Matsuyama/Xander Schauffele/Tony Finau
Here we have the 2021 Masters champion in Japan’s Matsuyama, the reigning Olympic champion in Schauffele, and Finau, who has 10 top-10 finishes at majors. Schauffele is 10th, Matsuyama is 11th, and Finau is 19th.
3) Dustin Johnson/Patrick Cantlay/Justin Thomas
Here we have a trio of high profile Americans. Johnson, the 2016 U.S. Open champion, and 2020 Masters champion, is ranked 12th. Cantlay, the 2021 FedEx Cup champion, is ranked fifth, and Thomas, the 2017 PGA Championship winner, is ranked ninth.

2) Tiger Woods/Rory McIlroy/Jordan Spieth
Wow! This group has 22 major titles combined. Do I need to say anything more?
1) Jon Rahm/Scottie Scheffler/Collin Morikawa
It what is clearly the feature group, here we have Jon Rahm of Spain (the 2021 U.S. Open champion), Collin Morikawa (the 2021 British Open champion) and Scottie Scheffler (the 2022 Masters champion). They are also the three top players in the world at this time. Morikawa has also won the PGA Championship in the past, as he was victorious in 2020.
