The 17th week of the 2024 National Football League regular season is now finished. Here are the top five headlines.

5) Sam Darnold has a career day.

The Minnesota Vikings stayed pace with the Detroit Lions at 14 wins and two losses in the NFC North. On Sunday, the Vikings defeated the Green Bay Packers 27-25 thanks to a great performance by quarterback Sam Darnold of Capistrano Beach, Florida. Darnold had a career high 377 yards passing. The win sets up a battle with the Lions for the number one seed in the NFC on Sunday night.


4) Saquon Barkley reaches 2000 rushing yards.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley of The Bronx, New York became the ninth running back in NFL history to have 2000 rushing yards in a season. He accomplished the feat by having 167 rushing yards in a dominant 41-7 Eagles win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.Barkley leads the NFL this season with 2005 rushing yards. The Eagles lead the NFC East at 13 wins and three losses.


3) Three more blowouts.

The Eagles were not the only team to blow out their opponent in Week 17. The Los Angeles Chargers made the playoffs with a 40-7 win over the New England Patriots, the Buffalo Bills clobbered the New York Jets 40-14, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers moved into first in the NFC South with a 48-14 win over the Carolina Panthers.


2) The Los Angeles Rams make NFL history.

When the Washington Commanders beat the Atlanta Falcons 30-24 in overtime on Sunday, they not only put them into the playoffs, but the Los Angeles Rams as well. The Rams made NFL history in the process. They became the first team ever to be three games below .500 for two consecutive seasons and make the playoffs each year. Last year they went three wins and six losses before winning seven of their last eight games, and this year they went one win and four losses before winning nine of their next 11.


1) How Burrow makes NFL history.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow of Ames, Iowa has been on quite the streak lately. As the Bengals beat the Denver Broncos 30-24 in overtime on Saturday, Burrow became the first quarterback to have seven consecutive games with 250 yards passing and three touchdowns. In the six point Bengals win, Burrow had 412 yards passing and three touchdowns. Burrow’s three yard touchdown pass to Tee Higgins of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, was the first ever Bengals offensive overtime touchdown in franchise history.
