The 14th week of the 2023 National Football League season is complete. Here are the top five headlines.
5) Denver Broncos are red hot.
When the Denver Broncos lost 70-20 to the Miami Dolphins on September 24, not many believed the Broncos would be able to turn their season around. But they have, and in the process have won seven of the last 10 games, and improved to a record of seven wins and six losses following a 24-7 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. The Broncos benefitted by the fact that Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert broke his finger and left the game.
4) Pittsburgh Steelers are ice cold.
Pittsburgh may have the same record as Denver at seven wins and six losses, but have looked awful the last two weeks. They have become the first team above .500 to lose two straight weeks to teams eight games below .500. On December 3, Pittsburgh lost 24-10 to the Arizona Cardinals and on December 7, lost 21-18 to the New England Patriots.
3) Nine upsets in Week 14.
Nine underdogs won in week 14. They were the New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Tennessee Titans and New York Giants. The Titans beat the Miami Dolphins as a 13.5 point underdog 28-27 on Monday night.
2) Joe Flacco becomes the fourth Browns quarterback to win this season.
On Sunday, Joe Flacco of Audubon, New Jersey became the fourth Cleveland Browns quarterback to win a game this season. He followed DeShaun Watson of Gainesville, Georgia, P.J. Walker of Elizabeth, New Jersey, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson of Columbia, South Carolina. On Sunday, Flacco completed 26 of 45 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns as the Browns beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-27.
1) Vikings beat the Raiders 3-0.
The Minnesota Vikings blanked the Las Vegas Raiders 3-0 on Sunday thanks to a 36-yard-field goal by Greg Joseph with one minute and 57 seconds left in regulation. It was tied for the lowest scoring game in the NFL in 80 years. Six other times the score finished at 3-0. With the win, the Vikings improved to a record of seven wins and six losses.
