The final major in men’s golf is approximately 12 hours away. Here are five intriguing groups fans will have to monitor at Royal Portrush over the next four days. 

5) Bryson DeChambeau/Justin Rose/Robert MacIntyre

DeChambeau and Rose are major champions. DeChambeau of Modesto, California won the 2020 and 2024 United States Open. Rose of London, England won the 2013 United States Open, and MacIntyre of Oban, Scotland won the 2024 Canadian Open and 2024 Scottish Open. 


4) Rory McIlroy/Justin Thomas/Tommy Fleetwood

McIlroy of Holywood, Northern Ireland is a five-time major champion as he won the 2011 United States Open, 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship, 2014 British Open, and 2025 Masters. Thomas of Louisville, Kentucky, won the 2017 and 2022 PGA Championship, and Fleetwood of Southport, England is the best golfer in the world without a PGA Tour win at number 13 in the world rankings.

3) Hideki Matsuyama/Ryan Fox/Matt Fitzpatrick

Matsuyama and Fitzpatrick are major champions. Matsuyama of Matsuyama, Japan won the 2021 Masters and Fitzpatrick of Sheffield, England won the 2022 United States Open. While, Fox of Auckland, New Zealand won the 2025 Canadian Open. 


2) Xander Schauffele/J.J. Spaun/Jon Rahm

All three golfers in this group are major champions. Rahm of Barrica, Spain, won the United States Open in 2021 and the Masters in 2023, Schauffele of San Diego, California won the British Open and PGA Championship in 2024, and Spaun of Los Angeles, California is the newest major champion in men’s golf as he won the 2025 United States Open.


1) Scottie Scheffler/Shane Lowry/Colin Morikawa

We have three major champions here as well. Lowry of Clara, Ireland won the only other British Open at Royal Portrush in the last 74 years. That took place in 2019 when he posted a score of -15 and beat Fleetwood by six strokes. Scheffler, the world number one from Ridgewood, New Jersey, won the Masters in 2022 and 2024, and the PGA Championship in 2025. Morikawa, the world number six from Los Angeles won the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 British Open.
