Tom Brady Continues To Break Records As Patriots Defeat Colts
8 years ago - Sportingbase
Tom Brady added to his résumé Thursday night in New England’s win over the Indianapolis Colts, throwing his 500th career touchdown pass to Josh Gordon, making him just the third player in NFL history to reach that milestone (Peyton Manning and Brett Favre are the other two).
Not only did Brady hit a major career milestone, but he also broke one of the most unusual NFL records in existence when he hit Josh Gordon with a fourth-quarter touchdown pass that put the Patriots up 31-17.
Gordon became the 71st player to be on the receiving end of a Brady touchdown pass, which set an NFL record. Brady’s throwing score to Gordon broke a tie with Vinny Testaverde, who threw touchdown passes to 70 different players during his 21 seasons in the NFL. Coincidentally, Testaverde actually spent one season with the Patriots (2006) and even threw a touchdown pass that year as Brady’s teammate.
Brady didn’t just get it done through the air in Week 5, though. The 41-year-old also dove over the pile for a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, which gave the Patriots a two-score lead. It wasn’t a highlight-reel scamper, but it inched the Patriots QB closer to 1,000 career rushing yards, which Brady made note of with an Instagram post-Friday night. “One yard closer…19 to go! The quest continues #TB1K ,” Brady’s caption read, coupled with a photo of his TD lunge.
Brady isn’t exactly fleet of foot, so it’s anyone’s guess as to how much longer it will take the veteran signal-caller to eclipse the 1,000-yard threshold on the ground.
