According to the Canadian Press on Wednesday, Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid of Asbury Park, New Jersey has been named the 2023-24 National Basketball Association sixth man of the year. Reid is the first Timberwolves player in franchise history to win the award.

Reid played 81 games for the Timberwolves this year. He averaged 13.5 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, and 1.3 assists per game. Reid had a field goal percentage of .477, three point percentage of .414, and a free throw percentage of .736.

The 6’9″, 265 pound product out of Louisiana State University also had six double-doubles and developed into a key part of an impressive Timberwolves squad that finished in third place in the Western Conference standings with a record of 56 wins and 26 losses.

Reid was used primarily to backup Rudy Gobert of Saint-Quentin, France. However, Reid did start in 14 games this season. The two NBA players Reid beat to win the award were Sacramento Kings shooting guard Malik Monk of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Milwaukee Bucks power forward Bobby Portis of Little Rock, Arkansas.

So far in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, the Timberwolves lead the Phoenix Suns two games to none in the Western Conference first round playoff series. Minnesota won game one by a score of 120-95 and game two by a score of 105-93. So far, we have not seen much greatness from Reid. In two games, he has 17 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal. The one statistic that is rather impressive however is the fact that Reid is a +22 after two games to date.
