Tigers deliver statement win against Yankees at Yankee Stadium

The Detroit Tigers have had an excellent season. They currently have a commanding eight and a half game lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central with a record of 83 wins and 62 losses.

On Tuesday, the Tigers delivered a statement win over the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. They not only beat the Bronx Bombers in their backyard. The Tigers clobbered them by a score of 12-2.

This was the second time this season that the Yankees lost by 10 runs or more at home. They lost 12-1 to the Boston Red Sox on August 23. It was the third time this season the Yankees lost by 10 runs or more in a game. New York was beaten 18-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 31.

There were several reasons why the Tigers put the smackdown on the Yankees. First, the Tigers had one huge inning. They scored nine runs in the top of the seventh. The inning was highlighted by a Kerry Carpenter triple that put the Tigers up 10-2. Tigers center fielder Parker Meadows was the only Tigers player to hit a home run, as he hit a 391 foot shot in the fifth inning. Detroit also got a quality start from starting pitcher Casey Mize, who only gave up two earned runs in six innings, and had eight strikeouts.

The Yankees are also struggling with the basic fundamentals. Yankees third baseman Ryan McMahon had an error, and Mark Leiter Jr. threw a wild pitch. The Yankees have now made seven errors in their last six games.
