Tigers can breathe again: Luai scans come back all good

The Wests Tigers have survived their first big 2025 challenge, though this one was off-field: Jarome Luai has been cleared of any serious injury after being sent for emergency scans over the weekend.

Luai, who is arguably the Tigers’ biggest-ever signing, pulled up lame in training late last week and instantly sparked a panic. There were concerns he may have seriously injured his leg, dooming his season before things had even started.

Things at Concord can begin to settle down now though — reports suggest Luai is all fine.

That is, he’s been put on ice and will come back to full contact slowly, but he should make Round 1.

Even before that, Luai should play too; Tigers fans will get their first chance to see their star halfback when the 28-year-old faces the Canterbury Bulldogs in a preseason clash at Kogarah Oval on February 16.

Luai was originally given an extended summer break by Wests powerbrokers after captaining Samoa during an England tour, though he came back early to get started with Benji Marshall and the rest of the squad. He’s been working hard on halves combos with young gun Lachlan Galvin since he started at Tigers training in early January.

The four-time NRL champion was also named co-captain for the 2025 NRL season alongside Api Koroisau, with whom he won three straight titles at the Penrith Panthers.
