Tiger Woods makes his return to golf at the PNC Championship

The PNC Championship took place this past weekend in Orlando. Normally golf at this time of year is on the back pages of newspapers, however the tournament in 2021, carried significant intrigue. This is because we saw the return of Tiger Woods, playing alongside his son Charlie in the unique father-son format.

This was the first time we have seen Woods in action since he was seriously injured in a car accident this past February. The accident resulted in an extensive leg surgery according to Deepa Shivaram of NPR. 

In the tournament, the Woods father and son duo, finished in second place to the father and son duo of John Daly and his son John Daly II, who plays college golf at the University of Arkansas. The Daly story is fascinating as well as he was diagnosed with bladder cancer a year ago.

Tiger and Charlie, who is only 12 years of age, combined to shoot -25. They were two shots back of the Dalys, who won the tournament with a score of -27. In an amazing stretch of golf, Tiger and Charlie had a remarkable stretch of golf where they had 11 straight birdies. According to Bob Harig of ESPN, Woods was pleased he did not have a bogey during the 36 holes of golf.

So one must now wonder when we will see Woods next? Could the Masters be a genuine possibility? It is about five months from now. It is difficult to read into the PNC Championship because this was more of a fun event for Woods than anything else. But for golf fans it was exciting to see Woods back on the green again!
