The Oklahoma City Thunder set a record for the longest winning streak in franchise history on Sunday. In a 105-92 win over the Boston Celtics at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the Thunder won their 15th straight basketball game. That broke the record previously set by the Seattle Supersonics, which won 14 straight games during the 1995-96 NBA season.
The Thunder were led by Canadian point guard and 2023 Northern Star Award winner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Toronto, Ontario in the record setting game on Sunday. Gilgeous-Alexander had 33 points, and posted a double-double, as he had 11 rebounds.
In all, five Thunder players reached double digits in points. Shooting guard Aaron Wiggins of Greensboro, North Carolina had 15 points off the bench, small forward Luguentz Dort of Montreal, Quebec, Canada had 14 points, shooting guard Cason Wallace of Dallas, Texas had 13 points and shooting guard Jalen Williams of Denver, Colorado had 10 points. Meanwhile, center Isaiah Hartenstein of Eugene, Oregon had double digits in rebounds, as he had 10.
It was the second half of the game where the Thunder took control. After trailing 65-55 at the half, the Thunder outscored the Celtics 50-27 in the second half. That is right. Boston only had 27 second half points (15 in the third quarter and 12 in the fourth quarter).
With the win, the Thunder improved to a record of 30 wins and five losses. They lead the second place Houston Texans by 6.5 point games for first place in the Western Conference. Wednesday’s game will be mighty special in the NBA. That is because the Thunder are facing the NBA’s best team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, which are at 31 wins and four losses.
