Thunder lose consecutive games to Suns and Hornets as double digit favourites

All of a sudden there appears to be deep concern with the play of the Oklahoma City Thunder over the last two games. On Sunday, they were a 12.5 point favourite to beat the Phoenix Suns, but lost 108-105. Then on Monday, the Thunder were completely spanked 124-97 by the Charlotte Hornets on the second game of a back-to-back as a 16 point favourite. However, it was the Thunder that lost by a whopping 27 points.

As a result, the Thunder have dropped to 30 wins and seven losses on the season. They still lead the San Antonio Spurs by four games for the best record in the Western Conference. OKC also leads the Detroit Pistons by two and a half games for the best record in the NBA.

In Sunday’s loss, the Thunder lost the game on a three-point shot by Devin Booker, who made a basket from 35 feet with seven tenths of a second left. It was not a buzzer beater officially, but it was close to. Three Suns players reached double digits in scoring. Guard Jordan Goodwin of Centreville, Illinois had 26 points off the bench. Booker of Grand Rapids, Michigan had 24 points, and Canadian small forward Dillon Brooks of Mississauga, Ontario had 22 points.

In the Thunder loss to the Hornets, Charlotte won the middle two quarters handily, as they outscored Oklahoma City 66-38. Six Hornets players reached double digits in scoring. Small forward Brandon Miller of Antioch, Tennessee had 28 points. Small forward Kon Knueppel of Milwaukee, Wisconsin had 23 points. Forward Miles Bridges of Flint, Michigan had 17 points. Point guard LaMelo Ball of Anaheim, California had 16 points. Center PJ Hall of Spartansburg, South Carolina had 13 points. Guard Collin Sexton of Marietta, Georgia had 10 points.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are not playing like NBA champions at the moment. I wonder how long it will take for them to get out of their mini-slump/funk.
