Thunder center Chet Holmgren out two months with a broken pelvis

According to nba.com on Monday, Oklahoma City Thunder center Chet Holmgren of Minneapolis, Minnesota will be out a minimum of two months with a broken pelvis. On Sunday, Holmgren was in the process of attempting to defend a layup from Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins of Toronto, Ontario, when he hit the floor hard.

The loss of Holmgren is a significant one. At the time of the injury last night (five minutes and 10 seconds into the contest), the Thunder were leading the Warriors 16-12. They went on to lose to Golden State 127-116. A problem for the Thunder was trying to defend. Warriors superstar point guard Stephen Curry of Akron, Ohio finished the game with 36 points.

So far this season, Holmgren is averaging 16.4 points per game, 8.7 rebounds per game, and two assists per game. He had a field goal percentage of .505, three point percentage of .378, and a free throw percentage of .776.

In 2023-24, Holmgren was second in voting for the NBA rookie of the year. He was only behind San Antonio Spurs star center Victor Wembanyama of Le Chesnay, France. Holmgren averaged 16.5 points per game, 7.9 rebounds per game, 2.4 assists per game, and 2.3 blocks per game. He had a field goal percentage of .530, three point percentage of .370, and a free throw percentage of .793.

This is the second time in Holmgren’s career he has suffered a major injury. He missed the entire 2022-23 season with a foot injury.

The Thunder are tied for first place in the Western Conference at eight wins and two losses. They share the same record as the Phoenix Suns and Warriors.
