Three golfers who could win the Farmers Insurance Open
4 weeks ago - Sportingbase
The third PGA event of the year takes place this weekend with the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California. Here are the three golfers we like the most this week. Remember last season Torrey Pines hosted two PGA Tour events as the Genesis Invitational was moved from Riviera to Torrey Pines because of the California wildfires.
Xander Schauffele
Schauffele is from San Diego and will compete in his home city for the only time this year. Schauffele’s best performance at Torrey Pines in his career came in 2021, when he finished in second place with a score of -9. Schauffele was only behind the eventual champion, Patrick Reed of San Antonio, Texas, who had a winning score of -14.

Jason Day
The native of Beaudesert, Australia has two things going for him this week. First, he has great history at Torrey Pines. He won the 2015 and 2018 Farmers Insurance Open. In 2015, Day shot a winning score of -9, and beat Americans Harris English, J.B. Holmes and Scott Stallings in a playoff. Then in 2018, Day shot a winning score of -10, and beat Sweden’s Alex Noren and American Ryan Palmer in a playoff. Second, Day was at -23 last week at the American Express and was second only to champion Scottie Scheffler.
Cameron Young
The native of Scarborough, New York should be considered here because of his success at the end of the 2025 PGA Tour season. Young was in the top 11 in his final six PGA events in 2025 including a win at the Wyndham Championship.
