Thomas Detry wins 2025 Phoenix Open

For the first time ever, a Belgian has won on the PGA Tour. On Sunday at the 2025 Phoenix Open, Thomas Detry had one the most dominant performances you will ever see in men’s professional golf. Ironically, it came on Super Bowl Sunday, prior to another dominant performance by the Philadelphia Eagles, who clobbered the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX.

Detry posted a four-round score of -24 to beat his closest opponents, Americans Michael Kim and Daniel Berger by seven strokes (a converted touchdown). He was the first golfer to win by seven strokes in a PGA Tour event since Lee Hodges of Huntsville, Alabama won the 3M Open in Blaine, Minnesota.

In the four rounds in Phoenix over the weekend, Detry had an opening score of five-under-par 66, a second round score of seven-under-par 64, and back-to-back scores of six-under-par 65 on Saturday and Sunday. You could argue that Detry’s most impressive stretch was in the fourth and final round on Sunday. There he birdied the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th holes to reach -24. It was the only time throughout the entire tournament Detry had four straight birdies.

Dietry now moves to 22nd in the world, and is the ninth ranked European golfer. He is behind Rory McIlroy of Holywood, Northern Ireland (number three), Ludvig Aberg of Sweden (number six), Tyrell Hatton of High Wycombe, England (number eight), Viktor Hovland of Oslo, Norway (number nine), Tommy Fleetwood of Southport, England (number 12), Robert MacIntyre of Oban, Scotland (number 14), Sepp Straka of Vienna, Austria (number 17), and Shane Lowry of Clara, Ireland (number 18).
