THE STARS DOMINATED AT FLEMINGTON

THE two winning machines Mr Brightside and Amelia’s Jewel didn’t let the racing fans down at Flemington with both producing easy but contrasting wins.
Both proved they are on track for the Cox Plate which is shaping as the race of the spring.

Mr Brightside is following a path set by Better Loosen Up from the same stable 30 years ago. Like his predecessor, he’s not a stunning-looking horse but he’s getting better with every start.
Better Loosen Up went through a similar stage where he kept winning not by great margins until his dominance was confirmed when he won the 1991 Australian Cup by five and a half lengths.
Mr Brightside has now won five in a row and he could have won the Makybe Diva Stakes by more than what he did. Craig Williams couldn’t have ridden him any better nor with more confidence.
Damian Lane was happy to sit wide and treat his rivals with contempt on Perth star Amelia’s Jewel in the Let’s Elope Stakes.
When he went for her, she quickly put the race to bed. She is heading for either the Golden Eagle or the Cox Plate. Her connections will make a decision as to which of the two races she runs in the Stock Stakes against mares at The Valley on Grand Final Eve.
