The Plunge’s Trial Review: Horses Must Follow From Rosehill Trials 15/1

A big day of trials at Rosehill where we saw many horses kick off their autumn campaigns. We’ve picked out some that caught the eye and identified where you may expect to see them.

Masked Crusader

This flashy 4yo from the Hawkes yard showed he has returned in fantastic order leading all the way with Tommy Berry on board. He led easily and kept the field at bay under a tight hold the whole way up the straight.

When To Bet

He looks ready to go 1^st up. He was placed in BM 88 races last prep and should be around that mark again this preparation. The Hawkes team may press forward to black type races if he can jump that hurdle early.

Standout

Standout comes from the Masked Crusader trial and it was hard to miss him after McEvoy rode him stone cold out of the gates settling last. He crept into the trial and charged home after a shake up to finish third making up big ground.

When To Bet

He will likely have another trial before an autumn carnival campaign but he looks to be flying. He boasts an outstanding 1^st up record 3:2-0-0 so punters should expect to see him line up in some of the stronger black type races when the carnival kicks off.

Ashema

Ashema showed she was an above average 2yo filly last campaign finishing 2^nd in The Inglis Nursery on debut. She was forced to do a bit of work out of the gates and sat wide on the speed but still produced a strong sprint when Berry shook her up at the top of the straight to win the trial by 1.3L in a quick time.

When To Bet

She should be a great bet in any Saturday 2yo race at Sydney over the next month.

Home Affairs

Home Affairs will have big expectations placed upon him when he reaches the races being a Coolmore horse trained by Chris Waller with a great pedigree. He blitzed his rivals by 2L in his debut trial. It was hard to not be impressed with the way he lengthened his stride when Sam Clipperton said go at the 300m.

When To Bet

It wasn’t the usual quiet debut Waller trial. I’m sure we will see him at the trials again before he goes to the races but this seems to be the one the yard may be earmarking for their tilt at a maiden Golden Slipper this year. He may debut in the Canonbury at Rosehill over 1100m or the Inglis Millennium over the same distance.
