The Plunge’s Saturday Review: Horses You Must Follow From Rosehill 29/1

Severe on-pace and inside running track bias resulted in a tough day of punting at Rosehill on Saturday. The majority of winners on the day came at double figure odds. After casting my eye over replays, I’ve come up with two runners that will be worth following over the upcoming autumn carnival.

Crystal Pegasus – Rosehill
- Race 6
- Distance: 2000m
- Class: BM 78
Crystal Pegasus was a rare exception to the leader bias at Rosehill. The progressive Waller 5yo settled midfield and benefited from McDonald finding the fence. Sydney’s top hoop slid his gelding across his on the turn and produced a powerful sprint up the straight to win on an unfavourable part of the track.
When To Bet
I was equally impressed by close runner up Casino Kid who settled behind Crystal Pegasus on the fence. However, that runner seems to be coming to the end of his preparation where Crystal Pegasus was 2nd up with improvement to come which should see him able to compete well in upcoming staying races in the autumn.
The Listed Parramatta Cup on his home track in 3 weeks could be a great target for where he is in his career. Coming back to 1900m shouldn’t be too much of a concern.
Forbidden Love – Rosehill

- Distance: 1200m
- Class: G3 WFA
I was impressed with the return of Forbidden Love in the G3 Expressway feature on Saturday. She settled midfield on the fence and travelled nicely in the run. She was inconvenienced at 400m after turning when she ran onto the heels of eventual winner Overpass which I believe is a nice indicator of how well she was travelling. It took a while to re-gather momentum but when she did she went through her gears for a pleasing 2nd. Evidence of the quality of the run was at the 150m when Anamoe drew level with her and looked like going straight past but ended up finishing half a length away in 3rd.
When To Bet
From this run and her impressive trial placing behind Nature Strip, Forbidden Love seems to be a 4yo mare hitting her best form and one I want to follow through the big mares races through the autumn. The G3 Triscay Stakes for mares at Randwick in a fortnight looks like a great next step.
