The Forgive, Forget and Follow Files 29/5

After the weekend of Group 1 racing we assess the horses you need to forgive, forget and to follow.

Forgive

Explosive Jack – Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace

3rd of 18 in the 2400 metre Group 1 Queensland Derby (Eagle Farm)

The Derby King went into the race as the clear favourite after his back to back Group 1 Derby wins in Sydney and Adelaide but it didn’t quite go to script on Saturday. Jockey John Allen was forced to weave through the field along the inside but the horse clearly peaked on his run and looked to have come to the end of his preparation. The stable already have both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups on the agenda so it will be interesting how he measures up in the Spring.

Savatiano – James Cummings

9th of 15 in the 1300 metre Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (Eagle Farm)

Was given the all clear after a vet test late last week ahead of her run in the Group 1. She ran relatively well only 1.8 lengths behind the winner but did pull up lame after the run.  She is a clear forgive and heads out for a spell now with James Cummings electing to not push her on to the Group 1 Stradbroke.

Forget

Brimham Rocks – Chris Waller

6th of 12 in the 2400 metre Group 3 Premier’s Cup (Eagle Farm)

After Saturday’s run the Chris Waller galloper has run 11 times without breaking through for a win and continues to run in the market. On Saturday he was a $7 chance and only ran on fairly. He’s probably a length or two below the best stayers in the country but also struggles with a big weight in handicaps, as we have seen this preparation. Tricky horse to follow and one to forget.

Follow

All About Eve – Andrew Noblet

2nd of 7 in the 1200 metre Two-year-old handicap (Caulfield)

She was very stiff in the first at Caulfield and once clear looked to have the race in her keeping but the line just came up a little quick. Gordon Richards who trained the winner had a very smart opinion of his horse so All About Eve is definitely one to watch.
