After the weekend of racing we assess the horses you need to forgive, forget and to follow.
Forgive
Stay Inside – Richard & Michael Freedman
5th of 6 in the 1200 metre Group 2 San Domenico Stakes (Kembla Grange)
The Golden Slipper winner returned on Saturday, putting in a plain first up effort only managing to beat the one rival home. Punters are already jumping on the ‘Golden Slipper curse’ train but I’m willing to give him one more chance. He looked like he was going to finish over the top of them before peaking on his run whilst the leader was able to kick away after another superb front running ride from Tim Clark. The next time Stay Inside steps out it will be very interesting to see how he performs and after a run under his belt I’m expecting him to bounce back hard. If he doesn’t, well it might well be the final time we see him on a racetrack.
Pensato – James Cummings
11th of 11 in the 1500 metre Benchmark 78 Handicap (Kembla Grange)
Started the $5.50 second elect in the market but finished down the field, 17.3 lengths from the winner. On straightening it looked like she would be featuring in the finish but soon after Tommy Berry urged her along he knew something wasn’t right easing her out of the race. She pulled up with Cardiac Arrhythmia and is headed straight for a spell now. Clear forgive.
Forget
Young Rascal – Richard & Michael Freedman
9th of 9 in the 2000 metre Group 3 Premier’s Cup (Kembla Grange)
Since winning the Group 3 Manion Cup just over 12 months ago, the seven-year-old has finished 7/12, 7/10, 8/10, 15/15, 9/10, 5/6 and on Saturday didn’t beat a runner home in 9th. He’s also had the two stable changes during that period and while his days as a racehorse might not be over just yet, for a punting aspect he’s in the never again file. Forget.

Tralee Rose – Symon Wilde
3rd of 15 in the 1700 metre Listed Heatherlie Stakes (Caulfield)
She’s the one to follow out of this race and potentially the card. While there were the obvious flashing light runs of Artorius and Masked Crusader, Tralee Rose went a little more unnoticed and looks in for a big Spring campaign. She didn’t quite run out the 3200 metres in the Adelaide Cup earlier this year so the Caulfield Cup over 2400 metres looks a more suitable target this preparation. It’s been reported after Saturday’s effort that trainer Symon Wilde is considering a race like the Naturalism on the 18th of September with a golden ticket into the Caulfield Cup up for grabs.
